SHEV: Overpressure systems
In certain areas of a building used for evacuation purposes (such as stairwells, elevator shafts, etc.), it may be necessary to install a pressurization system. In the event of a fire, this system creates overpressure in the designated space, preventing smoke from entering. This keeps the escape route or access path for the fire brigade free of smoke.
A pressurization system can also be used in an emergency or escape tunnel. In such tunnels — usually located next to a road or railway tunnel — a pressurization system ensures that the tunnel remains free of smoke and heat during a fire, providing a safer escape route. These systems comply with basic safety standards.
